Automotive Technician Overview

To enroll in the two-year Automotive Technician program, you must first complete all coursework in the Automotive Maintenance Technician program. Then you receive additional training in the following Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) areas:

  • Suspension & Steering
  • Brakes
  • Electrical & electronic systems
  • Engine repair
  • Automatic transmissions & transaxles
  • Manual drive train & axles
  • HVAC
  • Engine performance
  • Hybrid vehicles

This training will help prepare you for even greater employment opportunities in the auto industry.

Sample Courses

Automatic Transmission & Transaxles
Students will explore the principles of hydraulic and electronic controls as it relates to the automatic transmission.

Automotive HVAC Systems
Students will evacuate and recharge A/C systems, convert A/C systems from R-12 to R134a refrigerant according to industry standards, perform component replacement, and diagnose and repair computerized climate control systems.

Automotive Axles & Drive Trains
Students will learn the skills needed to diagnose, service, and repair automotive axles and drive trains. Coursework includes: wheel bearings, constant velocity joints, drive shafts & u-joints, and differential units.
