CVTC is approved by the Wisconsin State Approving Agency for training of qualified individuals under Veteran Education Benefits Act (GI Bill®), and for training of eligible dependents of deceased or 100% disabled veterans.
Veterans Services assists with the GI Bill® process and serves as a liaison between various Federal and State agencies, the College, and our students. CVTC does not and cannot determine eligibility for veteran benefits; the VA determines all eligibility. Veteran benefits DO NOT exclude you from receiving financial aid or scholarships.
Federal GI Bill® Benefits
The Department of Veteran Affairs administers a variety of education programs. Many veterans, active duty personnel, and/or family members can qualify for more than one education benefits program, including the following:
- Montgomery GI Bill® (Ch 30)
- Veterans Readiness & Employment (Ch 31)
- Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Ch 33)
- Survivors & Dependents Assistance – DEA (Ch 35)
- Selected Reserve – MGIB-SR (Ch 1606)
- Transfer of Post 9/11 GI Bill® Benefits to Dependents (TEB)
Wisconsin GI Bill® Benefits
The State of Wisconsin provides a number of educational programs for state veterans that are in addition to any federal veterans' educational benefits that may be available. Eligibility varies between programs, including state residency requirements.
When using the WI GI Bill®, please keep in mind: The WI GI Bill® does not waive 100% of tuition and fees. It only waives the 'program tuition' and 'classroom material' fees. You are responsible for paying the uncovered portion, including other fees, textbooks, and other materials.
Federal Tuition Assistance (TA)
Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) is available for all Active Service members. You can apply on your military portal. The Federal Tuition Assistance program may cover up to $4,000 per fiscal year. The Federal Tuition Assistance program covers tuition only. Students are responsible for the payment of all other applicable fees.
If using TA, the service member must obtain TA approval prior to enrollment at the school. Each branch of service handles TA differently. To find out how to get started, visit your Educational Services Officer (ESO), Navy Virtual Education Center (VEC), or Education Counselor within your branch of military service for guidance.
If you’re actively serving in the Air Force, Air Force Reserves, Air National Guard, apply for TA through the Air Force Virtual Education Center (AFVEC).
If you are in the Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard, apply for TA through ArmyIgnitED. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard service members will apply for TA through the MyEducation Portal.

How To Get Started
CVTC's Veterans Specialist is available to assist veterans in activating their educational benefits, a resource to local services, and can assist with military credit information.
- Wisconsin GI benefits available to veterans (and their dependents, if applicable) can be viewed at www.dva.state.wi.us.
- Federal GI Benefits available to veterans (and their dependents, if applicable) can be viewed at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/.
- Credit for Prior Learning – Military credits can be reviewed for transfer credit, click here for CPL information. Please have your Joint Services transcript or Air Force Academy transcript sent to CVTC for review.
- Other financial aid options may be available, please submit a Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.studentaid.gov
Priority Registration
In accordance with Wisconsin Law, services members are given priority to register for their courses over other students in their designated registration group. Declaration documentation is required 14 days prior to your registration date. Please contact CVTC’s Veteran Service Office for details.
